AI? alien intelligence. AI? angel intelligence. AI? ancestor intelligence.

BI: beneficial intelligence.

The human race races for the next biggest thing. The loss of wonder at the natural world. The gain of wonder at the virtual. I find myself mired in the quicksilver strides of technology. Increasingly removed from the truths of my senses. The virtual life is not sensual.

I will:
Put soil under fingernails (manicured or bitten).
Focus the eye on the minute movements in water.
Aim to recognize the birds I hear, smell and taste the food I put into my mouth.

Upon encountering virtual forces that blow me about like strong winds, I will question, each time:

to whom is this beneficial? Whom does this serve?

I want to find the solution in embracing the Other, because we experience even insects and plants (the beings and creatures that enable our existence on Earth) as profoundly alien.

A piece of beneficial intelligence: The smaller I make myself, the more space I give to the bad things. The more space that I take up with my good things, the less space I leave for the bad things.

This is the premise; we will argue forever what is a good thing, and what a bad.
Anyway, life passes in a frenzied instant and we are at its flooding mercy.

I want to see a world in which there are traces of other lives, ancient lives, and currents of interconnectedness.

I want to access time’s ribbons of memories.

What I’m missing in a lot of technological developments is the moral dimension — even the realization that humans have a moral dimension and should actively engage with it seems to be missing.

I talked about it with a friend, who agreed, ‘yes, at this point we need aliens and angels to come down and save us.’ It reminded me of the wonderful documentary “Miyazaki: Spirit of Nature” in which Miyazaki Hayao of Ghibli studios reflects on the sense of hopelessness that humans cannot seem to save themselves (and by themselves I mean each other)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This sculpture and the other is me starting to ask, what would benefit us? What intelligence are we missing that we desperately need?

AI: ancestor intelligence. AI: alien intelligence. AI: angel intelligence. BI: beneficial intelligence.

Art for the inside out.

I am a multidisciplinary artist creating images and objects.

Above all I am excited by how humans make sense of the world through form and meaning. I make symbols and stories which spring from the tension between spirit and banality.

The inner workings of our hearts, the world full of things outside of us.
